Disaster trip to the Queen Elizabeth Forest in Scotland

Following some last minute bargain booking and conversations with the tourist information in the area about the foot and mouth problems we booked a cabin at Lochearnhead expecting a weekend of good biking trails.

Easter 2001 (I think)

All of England was closed for Foot and Mouth so we decided to head North. Having checked with the tourist office to make sure the Queen Elizabeth Forest mountain biking trails were open we headed north.

We arrived at Lochearnhead in convoy to find an adequate log cabin for the team... from memory consisting of John, Glenn, Dave C, Nick D, Kate and Chris.

One the first day we set out on our mountain bikes to find the trails only to come across sign after sign warning of closed trails and Foot and Mouth

It turned out that the Tourist Info folks were talking out of their backsides and everything was shut. We managed to follow a very bland trail from Lochearnhead down to Calendar and back one day and did a loop of Loch Earn on road the following day. Some fantastic scenery, just unfortunate that everything was shut!

The highlight of the weekend was the full fried breakfasts each day, Dave C or Chris blocking the loo and the ducks enjoying sifting through the drainage from the cabin. We all avoided the duck on the menu in the local eateries.
